Another good set of Harrier performances were achieved last weekend. A select group of members competed at the first of the Wessex Cross Country League matches and u11 Ruby Shaw (seen above) and u17 Amelie Cook won their respective races.

Meanwhile over at Martock, the BHAM multi-terrain 10k saw five of the seniors out racing and two achieved podium places – Matt Lusby winning outright and Rosie Park 3rd for the women (that's Rosie on the right below)

The Wessex League fixture is the first of three which will be held before Christmas and there were a number of our partner YOAC members out running there too – well done to all, The next Wessex XC fixture is on Sunday 29th October and full details of the fixtures are on this link here. (entries close 5pm on 22nd October). Free to enter for Harriers.

Meanwhile, some of the Harriers are now getting ready to enter the first of the Gwent XC League fixtures being held on Sunday 14th October at Pembrey Park. If interested in being entered and going, then please contact Jon James or Alex Coombs for details as no doubt there will be some car-sharing arrangements.

Read on for the last call for the first of this season’s Street races – the 5k race is number 198 in a long sequence; with accompanying 1k & 2k races. Also, early notice that the EA registration fee for next year will be going up.

Wessex XC League – Canford Heath, Sunday 1st October

Whilst Ruby Shaw & Amelie Cook take the headlines for their race winning performances there were also some excellent runs by others in the Harrier colours. Well done all.

I’ve not received any detailed report but I do know that those from the Monday juniors training group were:

U11 girls 2.35km 1st Ruby Shaw 9.21

U11 boys 2.35km 21st Milo Cook

U13 boys 3.2km 20th Dominic Cook

U17 women 4.22km 1st Amelie Cook 17.37

At the following night’s training session last Monday (2nd October) both Ruby & Dominic achieved really excellent distances on the Gacon Test – see link here to understand what that is.

We do a variation on it twice a year for our older Monday juniors. U13 Oskar Beck achieved a new unofficial record on the night for that test and we’ve been using it for many years now.

A number of the Year 6 juniors then went on to race the following day and the photo at the foot of this web report is of Ruby Shaw winning the Mendip schools years 5&6 race!

NOTE: I have added the dates & venues of the various Cross-country Championships: Tri-Counties; South West; Southerns; and they are now shown on the team tab. Make a note and enter online in advance when entries open. If there are parents who can team manage a particular age group at these Championships then please let the Harrier Secreary Alex know: This email address is being protected from spambots. BHAM 10k multi-terrain race – Sunday 1st October

Rosie Park reports:

“Five Harriers took part in this trail race which was returning for the first time since COVID.

A fairly flat trail 10k with farm animals, gates and stiles to contend with, there was a final sting in the tail with a 10% gradient hill before the finish line. The BHAM! Running group delivered a well organised event with a friendly atmosphere and a group warm up to the Proclaimers (!). There was an abundance of homemade cakes to enjoy at the end.

Matt Lusby (seen below) took the win in 39.45 and Rosie Park came third female in 51.43. Marty Nelson finished in 59.40 while Kim Clark came home in 1.05.15 and Chris Clark in 1.24.21.”

Taking photographs & writing a report? – if there’s someone who can write up a report on the racing (using the results from the 3 races provided after the races, and what they observe) and/or take any photos (of the start etc) then that would be very useful for next week’s web report and newspaper report.
