Wells City Harriers once again fielded a strong squad of athletes at the traditional Round the Lakes 10k race at Poole on Boxing Day; and at the Clevedon Boxing day run a very competitive team of u15 boys dominated proceedings. Luke Prior ran out winner over the 10k race at Poole whilst Matthew Quarterman won the Junior race over 3km at Clevedon with four other team mates in the top eight. Read on for forthcoming events and training information, and a Happy New Year to all! Photo of u15 boys squad below at Clevedon

In the seniors 10km race at Poole, the men's team were victorious against strong squads from the host club (Poole AC) , Southampton AC, and Bournemouth AC amongst others. Winning the race outright was one of the Harrier's TeamGB athletes, Luke Prior, who had raced for TeamGB last week in an International XC race in Spain.  At Poole he led the field from gun to tape with a time of 32.14, and was backed up by Matthew Dickinson who finished 3rd in 32.47. With the father and son combination of Tom and Dylan Dukes finishing 17th and 23rd, in 36.32 and 37.12 respectively, the quartet had done enough to claim team victory.

Others competing well at the Poole 10k were Katrina Prior in 49.34, Paul Coward 51.14, Julie Dukes 57.33 and Melanie Coward 78.34.

In the Clevedon Junior race, over approximately 3km, the squad of junior u15 Harriers finished well up, with Matthew Quarterman home first, well clear of the second place finisher, in 9.09. In 3rd was Daniel Maydew, 9.45, then 5th Leo Stockham, 10.16, 6th Toby Watson 10.21; and 8th Bernard Mealing, 10.25.

Happy New Year from all at the Harriers! Whatever your training and competition goals in 2018 we wish you well in your endeavours
