At May’s Yeovilton 5k race, u23 Philip Bridge was 3rd to follow up his victory at the Glastonbury 10k. He finished in a new road pb of 15.34, just 9 seconds down on the 5k winner. V40 Tom Dukes followed up his very consistent running of late with 7th place in 16.40, to win his age category. Newly signed up Harrier, Zak Hurrell was next in for the Harriers in 15th place with 17.15. Amongst the juniors, two of our keen Monday night u13 training squad, Jack Harvey and Ollie Bishop, also managed personal bests.

WELLS CITY HARRIERS WIN IN THE SUN AT HOT GLASTONBURY ROAD RACES!

"Last Sunday over 30 members from Wells City Harriers were out competing in very hot conditions at the annual 10k, 5k & 3k Glastonbury races which take place on the roads around the Glastonbury area and the Tor. For some members this was their second race over a busy Bank Holiday weekend having already competed at either the BMC meeting at Street or at the British Athletics League match at Yeovil on the Saturday.
In the 3k race
Wells had 2 juniors competing in a total field of 136. Owen Dukes (U13 boy) was 17th in 13.45 and Maddy Barton (U13 girl) 81st in 18.03. Both Owen and Maddy train with the club’s Junior training group at Millfied track on Monday nights.
In the 5k race
Wells had 10 runners competing in a field of 171 and won the overall team prize.First home for the Harriers in 3rd place was new member Charlie Cook (U15 boy) in a time of 17.51. Next in 4th place was Archie Tyler (U15 boy) in 18.07. 9th was Jack Harvey (U13 boy) in 20.36. 17th was Nico Bosley (U15 boy) in 21.40. 20th was Benedict Simpson – Alexander in 22.39. Next in 24th place was first Wells female home Bali Chapman (U13 girl) in 23.06. Closely followed by Jasmine Caley (U13 girl) 26th in 23.13. Amalia Page (U13 girl) was 27th in 23.19. Then came Karen Shears (FV55) 72nd in 27.31 and Mary Powell (FV55) in 31.44.
In the 10k race
Wells had 20 runners competing in a field of 505 and were 1st and 2nd with the club’s Senior male Phillip Bridge winning the race in a time of 33.06 and Oliver Dickinson (U20m) coming second in 34.06. The club also won the Men’s team prize and were second for the Women’s team prize.
7th was Tom Dukes (MV40) in 36.02, just in front of his son Dylan Dukes (U17m) who was 8th in 36.12. Next in 18th was club ‘Super vet’ Steve Masters (MV50) back after injury in a great time of 39.24. Justin Thomas (MV40) was 26th in 41.22, next in 38th Graham Goldsmid (MV50) in 42.53. Just behind was Mike Bosley (MV40) 39TH in 43.11. Chris Searle (MV50) was 46th in 43.49. Martin Bailey (MV40) was 53rd in 45.00. Andy Robinson (MV40) was 62nd in 45.39. Next 63rd was first Wells lady home Ali Blaney in 45.52, also first Female V35 home in race. Colin Wood (MV50) was 107th in 48.31. Harriet Burr was 124th in 49.50. Gary Tubridy (MV60) was 140th in 50.32. Matt Dorber was 141st in 50.33. Simon Carr (MV50) was 142nd in 50.35. Mellissa Aspinall (FV35) was 155TH in 51.17. Mike Rusca (MV50) was 159th in 51.27 and Claire Wood (FV35) was 196th in 53.53.
