The Piddlewood Plod mutli-terrain 10k had a full house of 200 runners when it took place on Sunday 10th June. Starting and finishing at Thurlbear primary school just outside of Taunton, the course took competitors up the old trail of the Herepath onto the Blackdowns and through the woods for a double-loop on hilly terrain. Four of the Harriers managed to get an entry and they were led home by F35 Ali Blaney in overall 20th place, 3rd woman, in 48.31. v60 Paul Chadwick was next in 30th, 50.01, then v40 Andrew Robinson in 34th, 50.43, and finally F55 Karen Shears 97th in 62.26.
In the overall standings for the Somerset Race Series Ali is now in 2nd place with 20 points from her 6 races, with Harriet Burr right behind with 59 points from 6; and Karen Shears handily placed for a F55 award with her 141 from 5.
For the Harrier men, Justin Thomas is in 4th place, with 113 points from 6 races, with Andy Piper, Paul Chadwick and Craig Foley all bunched together in 12th, 13th and 14th places. Of course all can change if and when some of the faster Harriers such as Chris Green (13 points from 4) and Oli Frost (13 points from 3) get a few more races under their belts. The next race in the Somerset Race Series is the July 1st Quantock Beast race, but note that the race is now full. All of the Series races, and many other races/fixtures etc, can be seen on the Harrier calendar – just click on the month you wish to view.
