Wells City Harriers


There was some good running by Wells City Harriers at the latest of the Yeovilton 5km road races last Wednesday, 8th August, and excellent track and field performances when contributing to the victory in the South West Cup match on the previous Sunday, 5th August. 24 Harriers of all ages ran at the 5km with Ben Tickner leading the team home in 3rd place.

At Yeovilton one of the Club’s former TeamGB athletes Ben Tickner was 3rd in 15.09, with u23 Philip Bridge 6th 15.37 and senior coach Jon James 9th, 1st V50, 16.10. Jon’s time moves him to 3rd on the national rankings for V50s at this distance.

The previous Sunday the Harriers contributed a number of athletes to the joint team with Yeovil Olympiads when winning the South West Track & Field Cup against the best Clubs in the region. For the u15s, Adam Davison had a sprint double of 12.97 and 25.61, before a good Long Jump of 5.03m, whilst Tommy Hummell ran 2.18 for 1500m. For the u17s Holly Bigger ran 26.90 for 200m and 2.23 for 800m, before contributing good team points with the shot of 7.07m. Bernard Mealing competed in the 100m/200m/400m and had times of 13.10/26.19/58.57. For the seniors, Elise Thorner ran 58.62 for 400m. all contributed significantly to the effort. Please let team managers know asap if you are available for the final South West League match on Sunday 2nd September - also be prepared to have a go at a second string event if called upon to gain valuable points.
