Wells City Harrier Philip Bridge, now in serious training for his London Marathon, won in a nippy 41.55, whilst team-mate Zoe Kurle won for the women in 47.36. This was the 3rd race in the Somerset Race Series 2019, sponsored by Cornwall Glass, and the bumper entry made for good competition. It was good to see runners from across the region, some of whom have raced here for over 20 years and others who were new to the event. Read on for positions and times, and make a note that the next race supported by Wells Harriers in the Series is the Butleigh multi-terrain race on April 14th.
Harriers after the event:
Phil Bridge managed to get away from the chasing pack up the first steep hill and maintained form through to the end, whilst team-mates Dan Cahill and Christian Green gave chase, finishing in 2nd and 3rd places respectively in 42.10 and 42.14. Fellow Harrier Ed Stahl was 4th, 1st V40 in 44.18. 1st V50 was Paul Rose (Maiden Newton) in 46.23; 1st V60 Nick Brooke (Dorset Doddlers) in 50.03; and 1st V70Paul Snelling (Weston AC) in 71.11.
For the women, Zoe Kurle was followed in by local Cary runner Hannah Moore in 48.33, with Jo Carritt (Running Forever) 3rd and 1st F35 in 50.02. 1st F45 was Lin Lascelles (Maiden Newton) in 52.39 and 1st F55 was Jean Bailey (u/a) in 65.59. 1st F65 saw Yeovil Town’s Lesley Nesbitt pip Burnham’s Sue Nicholls, with Lesley’s time 62.59.
Race organiser and Babcary villager Gary Tubridy, whose company Avalon Sciences sponsors the event, was really pleased with the bumper turn out. All proceeds from race entries and cake/tea sales goes towards the village playing field maintenance and renewals. Apologies that the Age graded results were not available on the day due to hiccups with the software.

The next Harrier supported race is the Butleigh 10k multi-terrain on Sunday 14th April. Check the link here and note that you can enter in advance, whilst paying on the day – so no need to use post etc.
