Oli had an excellent run to finish 17th in 6hrs 50 mins: "A fantastic route following the high moor summits, with 2,600m of total ascent. The clear weather gave great views but the heat made it really tough."
A number of junior Harriers also competed over the weekend at the first of the Track & Field events of the season at the Bill Whistlecrift , Yeovil, Arena.
For some, expecially the Monday night Harrier training group, this was their first taste of proper competition. U11 Leyton Finn, despite giving away a year or two to the other boys, ran 13.72 for his 75m sprint and a good mark of 2.67m in the long Jump. U15 Georgina Burrows, like the others achieved a pb when she recorded 47.17 in the 300m., and another in the 200m in 29.86 despite being at the very youngest end of the age group. MARATHON COMING UP:
Good luck to all Harriers and all other local runners who are competing this coming Sunday at the London Marathon. We hear that Ali Blaney and Sharon Bowles, who gained the Clubs two balloted places, are raring to go - Ali was one of the Harriers who did their last long training run a few weeks ago and ran a pb at the Weston super Mare Half Marathon in 97.33 with the race actually finishing on the pier,; whilst Sharon competed in the Brighton Marathon for warm up. Damien Pick is hopeful of recording yet another good for age time and he, like Ali benefitted from the traditional Crewkerne supported long pre-marathon training run. Unfortunately Phil Bridge and Katrina Prior have had to withdraw from the starting list due to illness, but we hope they can make a good comeback in the near future. U20 George Biss is representing the Biss family this year at the distance. Former TeamGB, hon Life Member Ben Tickner is also making his debut at London. Life Member Elspeth Turner, now competing for Horsham Blue Star, is also on the start line and will again be targeting top 3 in her age group.
