John finished his latest challenge by arriving in Royal Wootton Bassett just 3 minutes ahead of his self-imposed 24 hour deadline!
John had "hit the wall" when he arrived at Chewton Mendip on Saturday evening, just short of halfway through his trek. This was propably down to having worn heavy army boots for the first 30 or so miles, and they didn't fit properly! But a warming bowl (or two) of chips, and a cooling drink or two set him up for the second stint.
With temperatures at -2C and some unfamiliar roads to contend with, he had a close call finding himself about two hours from target, with 9 miles to go. The final spurt got him back on schedule - just! All procedes from the run will go to Help the Heroes. |

Saturday November 10th saw 45 Harriers toe the start lines at the various age-group races at the 2nd of the season's tough Gwent League cross-country matches held at Brecon. It was great to see so many out competing and the performances have bolstered our team standings in various age groups, with individual honours being taken by a host of athletes. Sam Somerville was stand out for his victory in the u15 boys, with Luke Prior 2nd in the same race. Matt Dickinson was 3rd in the combined u17/u20 men's race and was actually 1st u17. Charlotte Baker was as consistent as ever with another 6th place in the u15 girls race. In the seniors, Jon James & Lloyd Collins once again led the way: Jon 2nd for the V40s and Lloyd 1st for the V50s.

With a huge entry of 400 there was stiff competition amongst the many veteran age groups, and it was Graham Goldsmid who lead the way for the harriers in a close finish in the MV50 category to cross the line in 34th position and 4th V50, just a few seconds behind the other V50 veteran runners.
